Ann Hilborn is the author of two novels, three screenplays, two children’s books, a number of short stories, and even the occasional inspired — and very short — poem.
Her screenplay, A Woman, a Burro, Six Crooks and a Coyote, a comedy about a woman’s unexpected and outrageous adventures in Mexico, won both the Reel Writers’ Feature Prize and Grand Prize. It also won Creative World Awards’ Creative Concept, and placed in the quarter finals or above in the Page Awards, the Austin Film Festival, Emerging Screenwriters, and Creative World Awards.
She also produced screenwriter seminars in Houston, bringing well-known teachers like Linda Seger, Richard Krevolin, Chris Vogler, Richard Walter, and Michael Hauge to share their wisdom with Houston writers.
As a novelist, Ann found quick success with her novel, Personal Justice. But, oddly, she wasn’t inspired and turned instead to the pursuit of screenwriting. That novel is now out of print, but, it was awarded the Best Fiction Based on Fact by the West Coast Review of Books.
Only recently has the novel-writing bug bitten again, and she is currently finishing her second novel, Drinking Stone for Water, a story of two women and their struggle to survive in a world vastly different from the one we have today.
Ann has a Master’s Degree from the University of Houston, as well as additional graduate seminars from University of California Santa Barbara, San Jose State, and the University of St. Thomas. A former educator and writer for textbook publishers and online learning platforms, she currently enjoys an unstructured life (no more 9 to 5) in the Texas Hill Country. She spends her time working on her second novel, editing books and articles, tracking down a few rock concerts each year, and exploring the world with her lovely husband.
